Dr. Debra Howenstine, MD

Office Hours are Monday through Friday at Family Health Center - Columbia.
Dr. Debra Howenstine graduated form Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, Illinois, in 1980, with a B.A. degree in Health Care Sciences. She attended the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri, receiving a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1988, after which she did a Family and Community Medicine Residency with the University of Missouri Columbia Hospital and Clinics from 1988 – 1991.
Dr. Howenstine has served as the Medical Director for the Columbia/Boone County Health Department since 1991. She has been an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri-Columbia since 1993. She joined Family Health Center in 2002 as a part-time Family Practice physician. She currently is an attending physician for the medical school residents in Family Practice from the University of Missouri at the Family Health Center, supervising and teaching diagnosis and management of patients in an outpatient setting.
Dr. Howenstine and her husband have two daughters. She is fluent in Spanish and is very active in community activities, including Centro Latino and MedZou. She has received numerous awards including Family Medicine Teacher of the Year Award and a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for “Outstanding Service and Making a Difference in the Community.”
