DEFINITION:  A Self-Pay patient is one who is responsible, either personally or through a guarantor (usually a family member), for the  payment of a portion of or all of the charges assessed by the Center for services provided to the patient.   Patients become Self-Pay in two ways:

  1.      The patient has no third party payer (no insurance) or agency contractor who is responsible for payment of services rendered by the Center to the patient  (known as Uninsured Self-Pay herein);

  2.      The patient has a third party payer or agency who has paid for a portion of the patient’s charges and the patient is then responsible for the remainder of the charges assessed by the Center (known as Insured Self-Pay).
